Ghost Town Findlay was the site of numerous businesses in addition to the lumber industry, including flour mills, grist mills, and even a brewery. With steamboats transporting people and goods up and down the Blanchard River, the town's location along the river also made it a significant transportation hub.
Closure. On July 16, 2002, the chairlift stopped, stranding passengers for over two hours. With fewer people visiting Ghost Town because of the bad condition of the park, Coburn closed Ghost Town a few days after the chairlift failure and put the park up for sale.
Some towns died because the economy which supported them finished or failed. Mines are worked out, timber is cut down, wells go dry, and new routes bypass the community. Still others die from natural or manmade disasters. Floods and droughts, heavy regulation, or total lawlessness ended their share of towns.

So the majority of ghost towns date from the 1880-1940 period of westward expansion and industrialization. Texas and California top the list thanks to mining and oil towns, with Texas surging after 1901's Spindletop discovery and California towns booming in the rail expansion of the 1880s.
This story starts with an adventure in an old ghost town in Nevada. From a letter found in an old miner's trunk, Sara and Sam learn of a treasure of gold nuggets hidden somewhere in Silver Canyon. With their new Indian friend, Sage Running Horse, they begin to unravel the mystery.
As a city, Findlay was founded in 1812 and incorporated as a city in 1887. Findlay was originally settled by Frenchman Jean Jacques Blanchard in 1769. He lived in Findlay until his death in 1802, a year before Ohio became a state. Findlay was named by Wilson Vance and was originally spelled Findley.
The Ghost Town Trail derives its name from the once-thriving towns of Wehrum and Bracken, dismantled in the early 1930s. Today only one of an estimated 250 original mining-era houses remains in Wehrum, across the state road from the former site of the hotel and the remains of the bank vault.
